AREAS OF PRACTICE
Mediation can help with a range of issues facing families. The most common areas include divorce and separation and within these cases mediation can assist with:
- Emotional and psychological adjustment
- Economic issues
- Property concerns
- Pensions
- Long-term financial security
- Parenting after parting
- Relationships with extended family
Mediation can help at any stage of a separation and helps couples see other options available to them and helps assist them in communicating better with each other. Other areas mediation can provide support include:
- Newly extended families (where two separate households start living together)
- Relationships between in-laws
- The changing role of grand-parents
- Adjustment after a death in the family
- Planning for life after an inevitable change in family circumstances
(the loss of a child, a partner's illness) - When sexuality, disability or race put a strain on a family
Legal Aid Funded Mediation
If you are on certain benefits or if you are on a low income you maybe eligible to receive free mediation. You can find out by visiting www.gov.uk. I hold surgeries for legal aid funded clients every Friday. Please contact me to arrange an appointment.
Direct Child Consultation
I offer a facility for children to be included, where appropriate, in the mediation process. During separation and divorce children often feel that they no longer have a voice. They may be anxious about new arrangements and worry about the impact these will have on school, friendships, family dynamics. I offer children the opportunity to have their voice heard in a safe and confidential environment. If the children want their views fed back to you, as parents, I can help with that communication. I am fully qualified and trained in child consultation and have an advanced safety check. If you are interested in discussing direct child consultation as part of your mediation process please get in touch.
